A quick overview of some recent books I've acquired...
I recently received a review copy of the second edition of the IT Manager's Handbook [2nd ed.] by Bill Holtsnider and Brian D. Jaffe. I found the book to be a nice high-level reference for most of the key areas that IT managers will need to grapple with. Most IT managers are promoted from within IT, but it is unlikely that they will have been exposed to every area within IT. Furthermore, there are new skills that managers will need to hone, such as budgeting and managing people. This book offers guidance in both areas for new IT managers.

Tutorial for Users, Beginning and Intermediate Level

Most companies have become highly dependent on their IT departments for their day-to-day business operations - often including revenue generation - so the tasks are critical and the learning curve is steep.
The IT Manager's Handbook, 2nd edition provides essential information needed to manage those new responsibilities: vital tasks such as creating budgets, evaluating technologies, administering compliance, and managing staff.
